Alan Tonge is a Sport Psychologist and Ambassador for the Football Association (FA) for autism.
With a PhD in Football Psychology and a former footballer himself, having played for teams including Manchester United and Exeter City, Alan knows only too well the mental problems footballers face throughout their professional footballing careers and, importantly yet often forgotten, after them. One stand out point being that players are increasingly offered sport psychology support as they make their way through the academy, but this tends to drop during their early professional years and most certainly as establish their places in the first team. Moreover, those psychologists often approach them in terms of improving the teams' performance. What about the individuals?
Outspoken, knowledgable and passionate about making a change, he'll be joining the conversation with the latest health-related sports news and debates.
